Our history

Manroland Sheetfed, has a rich and storied history dating back to the 19th century. The company’s roots can be traced back to the establishment of the MAN group in 1844 in Augsburg, Germany.

The company initially focused on producing steam engines and later expanded into printing press manufacturing. The brand truly came into its own with the development of the first sheetfed offset press in 1911.

Over the years, Manroland Sheetfed has been at the forefront of printing technology, consistently innovating and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the world of offset printing. Through technological advancements, Manroland Sheetfed has established itself as a global leader, providing high-quality printing solutions to customers worldwide. Today, the company continues to build on its legacy of innovation, offering state-of-the-art printing press that meet the evolving needs of the printing industry.

1871

Louis Faber and Adolf Schleicher found Faber & Schleicher.

1875

Albatros press is launched printing up to 700 sheets per hour.

1911

The first Roland sheetfed offset press is built

1922

Introduction of the single-color Klein-Roland 00, printing up to 5000 sheets per hour

1951

4-color sheetfed offset press ‘The Ultra’ appears at the drupa trade show

1972

Introduction of the ROLAND 800, the first sheetfed offset press with an integrated color control system offering print speeds of up to 10,000 sheets per hour

1990

Introduction of the ROLAND 700, medium format, with a revolutionary digitalized control concept, a new benchmark for the printing industry which has set new standards in print quality

1995

The ROLAND 900 large-format sheetfed offset press makes its debut at drupa, setting new standards in speed and economy

2000

Launch of the ROLAND 500, printing up to 18,000 sheets per hour

2003

The ROLAND 900 enhanced to XXL launches with format 7 / 7B / 7B Plus and format 8 capability

2004

Introduction of Ultima configurations for highly specialized customer applications and ROLAND inline solutions such as the InlineFoiler

2006

New ‘DirectDrive’ technology brings super-fast make-ready times

2008

ROLAND 700 presses capable of up to 18,000 sheets per hour

2010

Launch of the ROLAND 900 XXL, the largest sheetfed perfecting press ever produced, leapfrogging competitors in both quality and capacity

2011

Further proven XXL technologies are transferred onto the ROLAND 900 press, giving customers additional opportunities to enjoy higher efficiency and improved long-term stability

2012

Manroland Sheetfed is purchased by Langley Holdings plc, the British multi-disciplinary engineering group

2013

Manroland Sheetfed GmbH formally becomes a division of Langley Holdings plc.

2014

The groundbreaking new press ROLAND 700 EVOLUTION launched after two years since Manroland Sheetfed’s reshuffle

2015

ROLAND 700 EVOLUTION wins Red Dot Award for Product Design 2015

2018

Six years in a row of success and profitability for Manroland Sheetfed GmbH

2020

Manroland adds new presses to its Evolution family – ROLAND 700 EVOLUTION Elite; ROLAND 700 EVOLUTION Speed; ROLAND 700 EVOLUTION Lite and ROLAND 900 EVOLUTION.

Facilities

Every press we deliver is designed and built in Offenbach, Germany.

Our facility is a world-class integrated manufacturing complex comprising the group’s global headquarters, extensive production and assembly halls, state-of-the-art foundry, training, research and development facilities and print technology centre. The facility extends to around 114,000m2 (1.2 million ft2) located over more than 30 hectares (72 acres).
